Preservation Alert, Reminder: Proposed 6-Story Building at 20-24 East Oglethorpe Is Still Too Tall and Massive
Note: Send letters to Jonathan Mellon (mellonj@thempc.org) by Monday, May 12 to meet the 48-hour deadline to be included in the public record. Copy OPC Director, James Hundsrucker (jhundsrucker@gmail.com) in the letter as a check to make sure all letters are included. Even if you have sent emails for the previous two hearings, it is important to send a third one because your prior letter will not be part of the record for this new hearing. Thank you
A proposed 6-story structure at 20-24 East Oglethorpe Avenue, over 68 feet high and over 80 feet across, is not visually compatible in height or mass with the contributing buildings within view, most of which are 2-to-4-story townhouses. Although it is 5 feet lower than the prior proposal, the OPC believes that the building is still too tall and massive.
The proposal will be reviewed by the Historic District Borad of Review on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 1 PM.
Whether or not you can attend in person, please send another letter to the HDBR via email to mellonj@thempc.org, even if you wrote a prior email in October 2024 or February 2025. Here is a sample letter:
Dear HDBR:,
I oppose the proposed building at 20-24 East Oglethorpe. It is not visually compatible in height and mass with the contributing buildings in view, including the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and the many townhouses nearby.
